Good morning fellow Gluemeaties!

Man, was I sick. I mean SICK. I think I went through the worst flu ever in the history of the world. I may be slightly exaggerating, but it sure felt that way. I was ill, folks, and not in that “funky fresh” way. Started feeling bad two Wednesdays ago and only started recuperating after spending four days in hospital because everybody thought I had come down with avian flu. I can sincerely say that it’s only been four days since I’ve been in tip-top shape. Now, I’m definitely at 100% and ready to wrestle that bull to the ground and make him my bitch. Who wants in?

On with the Deathday festivities!

So, of course, I completely fumbled Safetypin’s Deathday. I call it divine retribution. Some people call it a curse. My son calls it “Tom.” Nevertheless, we will celebrate the memory of Safetypin’s passing today. In fact, you’ll want to check back a lot, since all throughout the day, I will be posting various updates from those kind, loving souls who sent me things to remember Safetypin by. So tell a friend, hug a rock and point your browser back here a few times and you will see how much we miss ye olde Safetypin. And we’ll kick it off with our pal Sev!

Today, fellow Gluemeaties, the birthday card presentation moves on, as I introduce to you all Lauren’s addition to the love in celebration of my 32 years on the planetoid.

Just before we move on with the rest of the day, as many of you probably (and rightfully) believe, I loathe the Oscars for their gaudy, self-congratulatory, royalty-on-parade aspect, and the oft-political implications of nominations and winners. Therefore, of course, I avoided the TV presentation like the plague, especially those red carpet segments. Just thinking about them makes my skin lose pigmentation.

However, every year or so, there’s one victory which allows me to forgive Oscar night for its excessiveness, and this year that honour belongs to the victorious Philip Seymour Hoffman, whose righteous performance of Truman Capote was eras above and beyond what any of his counterparts pulled off. In fact, he’s quite possibly the best actor in Hollywood today, and has been for a few years. Not many men have pulled off such a revolting and bad-taste-in-your-mouth leaving performance like he did in Happiness, only to make your chest burst with the unbridled care and devotion shown in Magnolia. There’s also his saving of 25th Hour and his spot on performance in Owning Mahowny which only add further argumentation to his cause, but seems to me his low-key attitude and apparent reluctance to playing the Hollywood game will keep him from generating the accolades he rightly deserves to draw him to the status of people like Meryl Streep, Robert De Nero and Dustin Hoffman.

The birthday card calvacade rages on with the fury of a water buffalo today, as I present to you the card sent to me by fellow webcartoonist-person Tom Turnasella of Distant Screaming. Merci beaucoup, Tom! If you’ve never read Distant Screaming, this may be a good time to go start enjoying it. Maybe. Perhaps. YES!

On the subject of webcomics, one of my old haunts, No 4th Wall To Break, has apparently returned from the solemn town of Hiatusburg to updating comics again. That’s a good thing. I’ve always enjoyed Chris’ sense of humour, therefore you should too. Go and read and enjoy and love and pat yourself on the back in you have the flexibility to do so.

Fellow Gluemeaties, today begins a small series of fan-art (which we around here call “Meatgrinds”) which will showcase the wonderful cards (and gifts!) I recieved from some of you. If anything, the 2006 edition of Send Case Yorke a Birthday Card served to show without a shadow of a doubt that I am a Card Whore. It is a burden I believe I will learn to deal with.

So to begin the day, Gluemeaty Monkey’s card will kick off the festivities.

Also, you may have noticed that I have added links in the top three boxes here to allow for quick inclusion of Gluemeat editions to Ma.gnolia. What the hell is Ma.gnolia, you ask? It’s a new social bookmarking service which I have been using for work over the past week and have found to be especially practical and useful, everything that del.icio.us crap isn’t. I figure that if any of you would like to sign up for a free account and help promote Gluemeat that way, it would be a wonderful little cutie-pie gesture! Did I just write cutie-pie?

Smell: my aromatherapist never said paint fumes could help me attain such levels of nifty.

So I have decided to pull out some of the old fanworks that have been offered to me over the years, which we affectionately refer to as “Meatgrinds” around these parts, and give them the proper inclusion they deserve with full front page honours.

This particular one is one of my favourites, a vision from longtime Gluemeaty fungifut, of whose presence I miss quite a lot. His Livejournal has lots of his stuff. His deviantART site even more. Go say hello. Maybe he’ll come back.
