Well, there you have it, fellow Gluemeaties. Number 500 has struck.

Instead of harping on my decision to kill off Safetypin today, I’ll instead share a few words with you about Gluemeat.

I started scribbling stuff for Gluemeat well after I had abruptly stopped doing Aren’t We Real. It was mostly joke ideas and a few doodles here and there, but doing so had a very therapeutic connotation for me. I had just spent arguably the most difficult year of my life and depression had set itself in. I spent the summer of 2001 mostly indoors, drawing all sorts of garbage and writing whatever came to mind. The more I came up with these random ideas I used in the first few editions of Gluemeat, the better I felt. It really did help me find me centre and assisted me down the path of recovery. It wasn’t ALL that, but it did help. And despite saying to myself I would never burden myself with having to do an online comic ever again, I felt Gluemeat had to exist. It felt too good to leave it die.

Gluemeat has always had a special place in my life since it represents so much good on a personal level. That’s why I work hard on this hobby of mine, because I’ve discovered it to be quite a lifeline, moreso than I expected. Sure, I go off on tangents, and it doesn’t always make sense, and it’s not always good, but I try with comic, I give it my best, without pretense (regardless of how I act) or arrogance. I’m just lucky there are people out there who seem to enjoy it as well, thus giving me powers.

I never thought I’d get to 500, honestly, so allow me to be the first person to be surprised. I always said that I would stop doing Gluemeat when it wouldn’t be fun to do anymore; lo and behold, it still is. And while a lot of the fun still has to do with very personal issues, a substantial part of its continuation can be attributed to you, the readers, for coming back time after time, posting comments, sending me emails, and setting me straight when I make typos. No matter how insignificant your visit to Gluemeat.com may seem to you, it means the world to me. I value each comment, each critique, each visit and each email.

Thank you for sticking with me this long, and here’s to the future. Consider you lot hugged.

I’m so thrilled to have received this 500th anniversary comic mosaic, done by none other than Gluemeat faithful TN. Look at it and see if you can name every character you can see. It’s amazing and I’m touched. Thanks, TN!

Well, fellow Gluemeaties, you all made very good guesses as to who the man in panel four in yesterday’s comic was, but no one really came close (especially you Dan… “me in a beard…” come on!). The man we were looking for was 19th century socialist, working man’s friend, and friend to Karl Marx, George Julian Harney. So when Blue said “they” were watching him, he meant THE SOCIALISTS. Ooooh…! Thank you all for playing!

On a related note, I just wanted to note that Tasteful Future, my weblog project which I am bringing to life with fellow Gluemeat readers TN and Gemini6Ice, was linked by two major Leftie news sites, buzzflash.com and whatreallyhappened.com, thanks to this little opinionated post I wrote. Record-breaking day for visits, I can tell you that much! Maybe some of you visitors took the time to take a look at Gluemeat as well as TF, and therefore, I say hello and welcome! Hopefully we’ll be lucky enough to have your patronage on either side of the server.

Hello and good day to you, fellow Gluemeaties! Don’t you just love Wednesdays? I know I do. Wednesdays are always so full of hope and promise. Can’t help but not love ‘em.

I was sweating profusely yesterday at the announcement of the various new Apple products as presented by Steve Jobs at Macworld San Fransisco. I talked about it in Tasteful Future, but due, that entry-level Mac mini is so freaking inexpensive! There has never been a better time to abandon your hastily put-together Windows boxes and switch to a real computer. Anyway, read all about it in TF.

By the way, I asked the question on the Glueboard, but has anyone seen the first episode of the new season of Carnivàle? Felt a little hasty compared to the rhythm we had become accustomed to in season one, but I still can’t wait to see how this year plays out. Actually, I’ve found myself watching more television since September than I can actually remember. Usually, I concentrate myself on one or two shows, and that’s pretty much it, aside from your limited runs and/or mini-series. But right now, I’m currently following Carnivàle, Lost, ReGenesis, Stargate Atlantis, Battlestar Galactica, Six Feet Under, and Arrested Development, not to mention late night re-runs of Futurama and Home Movies. How do I find the time to get anything done?

In summation, I’m learning how to use Flash and you will all be the better for it. Until later, fellow Gluemeaties!

Fellow Gluemeaties, it is with great, great pleasure that I announce to you, today on the last day of the month, that March 2004 has been the most visited and viewed month in the history of Gluemeat. Isn’t that swell? It’s amazing what a back injury can do for you.

Okay, that was sarcasm.

I’d really like to thank Lee Adam Herold, BoxJam, Aaron Farber, Chris Whestestestetestestestone, Brad Guigar, Eric Toffey, Mark Stickley, Double-Ecks, Goatboy, Dan “The Beest” Beeston, Justin Pierce, James Duncan & Matt Shepherd for heralding my return. I mean, these are the guys I knew about and for that I owe them all. Maybe there’s a couple who slipped by me, and for that I apologise. My only wish now is that we can reach Year Four without any other major bodily accidents.

So here’s to love of all things… love… ly. Man, I need a nap.
