note: nothing is off topic, go nuts; however, please stay respectful to everyone here or I'll send little pink bunnies after you. BUNNIES WITH MACHINE GUNS. Also, I'll ban anyone who abuses the comments. What is considered abuse? Think the opposite of "common sense."
When did the military start recruiting pre-teen forum dwellers?
Think about it, Gunnar. Who has more bloodthirsty rage than a 12-year-old nerd?
Okay, apparently John Kerry said something to the effect of “if you’re lucky and get a college degree you won’t get stuck in Iraq.”
Not sure what he really said or meant, but I think that’s what this picture is about.
What he said was meant as a joke about Buysh, apparently.
Media spin put it as badmouthing the soldiers and he was forced to withdraw from the election.
Kerry said he had been in Texas the day before; that the president lived in that state, but now lived in a state of denial. He said the trip to Texas reminded him about the value of education. Which lead into the line “Education, if you make the most of it and you study hard and you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”
Given the context, the only way to take it as a slight against the troops is to read in the slight. No comic would ever make the mistake of thinking that the joke, however bad, targeted anything other than the president.
I don’t know what to think about the picture. Either they’re only fed certain news, and that news is the dishonest type feeding them Fox News, or they’ve got the same internet I do, and chose trust the talking heads rather than see if Kerry actually insulted them.
I’m not sure which scenario makes me sadder.
By itself, that sounds like he’s saying that only idiots go to Iraq. I’m certain that’s not what he meant, because he’s not an idiot and only an idiot politician would say that.
So basically a poorly-thought-out joke cost him an election because the news media is full of assholes who know that the surest way to get ratings and therefore advertising money is to manufacture crises.
