Newsey Quote: Stephen Harper
“[Canadians] want a Canada that reflects their values and interests, and that punches above its weight.”
- Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper in Calgary, Alberta, commenting on what kind of role Canadians want for their country to have in the future.
Quick comment on my part: funny, my values and interests don’t involve punching in any way, nor do they involve sending men and women to die to help us do so. He doesn’t speak for me, nor does he speak for 63.7% of the country.
Mike, that very line bothered me a lot too. “Punches above its weight …” Sheesh. Do we really want a prime minister who talks like that? Who describes our country as a pugilist?
And I’ll restrain m’self from observations about any particular politician’s weight, and how hard it might be to “punch” above that …
Please. Don’t restrain yourself, skdadl. Don’t.
Yeah, see, the most important thing on my mind, and on the mind of most Canadians I’m sure, is to be a country which starts picking a fight with everyone because it has a height complex.
Hey, we may not have a huge population, but we’ll knock your block off! Come on, you wanna piece of me? Hold me back! Hold me back!
