Abortion on 11 year old rape victim = excommunication
And the Vatican takes another giant step back to the Middle Ages:
A Vatican official has said the Catholic church will excommunicate a medical team who performed Colombia’s first legal abortion on an 11-year-old girl, who was eight weeks pregnant after being raped by her stepfather.
The Columbian cardinal who came up with this brilliant show of compassion has said that even lawmakers who make these acts possible should be put up for exclusion from the Church for making this “abomniable crime” possible.
What about the abomniable crime of a child being raped and empregnated by a family member? But no, it’s so bloody important to defend these backwards principles, there’s no time to properly defend the victim, whose life will be scarred with not only the memory of being raped by her mother’s boyfriend, who had been abusing her since she was seven, but of having gone through with the abortion process. Nah, we wouldn’t want that to rest on our collective consciousness now. It’s too insignificant.
So I guess we need to congratulate the stepfather for not using a prophylactic, right?
It’s shit like this that makes me proud I don’t belong to any organized religion and ashamed to be human. What is the matter with these people! Who are these Vatican bullies anyway, and why do idiots give these supposedly “holy” men so much power? Man people are such sheep. As a former victim of abuse, I know how painful it is to feel violated. For anyone to side with anyone other than the little girl is not only heartless, but a bully too.
The abuse will affect her for the rest of her life, and they’re saying it’s not bad enough?
I don’t know about Columbian prisons, but I know that in Danish prisons, pedophiles are treated with an extra brand of justice by the other inmates. Usually I think that the punishment chosen by the courts are sufficient, but this is one of the areas that make me see red spots and I actually don’t disapprove of it.
Has anybody been excommunicated when Catholic Church was murdering millions of innocent people during inquisition? Was that not a murder, or was it somehow justified? Why didn’t they just excommunicate the people they felt did something wrong instead of violently torturing and eventually murdering them?
Julie: I got shivers up and down my spine when I read this article. Organized religion is truly turning into a joke. I actually wonder what Pat Robertson has to say about this one.
Jan: Canadians prisons kind of have the same “code” one which I feel everyone pretty much turns a blind eye to. Still, the son of a bitch is getting off too easily.
Tim: Nah, nobody was excommunicated duing the Inquisition or the Crusade as they were doing God’s work. Think of why nobody has been wrapped into war crimes for Iraq.
It’s hard for the Vatican to take a step back to the Middle Ages when they never really left.
Word.
So much for the ‘The Only Two Laws Shall Be Love For Thy God And Love For Thy Fellow Man’.
Funny story: I went to Catholic private school.
Funny story: I am no longer Christian.
By the way, does anyone know whether the man got excommunicated for raping a child? I’d say odds are against it.
