Okay, so it turns out that Teletoon hasn’t stopped airing old Home Movies episodes altogether, but instead has shifted its timeslot to the high-octane 1:30 am hour. Poo on them, I say.

About the whole Isaac Hayes leaving South Park fiasco, I’d like to share this: not many people like scientologists, especially with goofball representatives like Tom Cruise prancing up and down, so Hayes is an easy target right off the bat. But never did Hayes specifically mention that he was leaving South Park due to the scientology episode. It was Matt Stone in his statement who claimed the relation.

I’m sure you’ve read all the “hypocrisy” arguments, stating that Hayes had no trouble mocking all different sorts of organized religion but then suddenly became offended when his religion got involved. If you subscribe to that, then you’re buying Stone’s side of the story. I like to think that human behaviour is a little more layered than that.

If you consider that the scientology episode was recorded earlier last year and aired last November, perhaps Hayes would have left in protest way before now, which leads me to believe that Stone is full of shit. Hayes, in his statement, is right about one thing: religious intolerance has been growing more and more, and being a religious person (regardless of what you may think about his beliefs) perhaps there are outside factors which have led him to this decision. After all, he did mention the Muhammad cartoons as an example of mass media insensitivity. Maybe he’s just reached a boiling point. Maybe he saw some upcoming South Park scripts that made his skin crawl. Fact is we don’t know for sure.

It isn’t all that hard to believe that this decision was reached after a good bout of soul searching. It does come across as odd, but it doesn’t seem implausible. Moments of clarity don’t only happen to drunks, you know.

Funny that I talk about this considering today’s classic Aren’t We Real re-run. HA!

David Cronenberg is 63 years old today and I liked A History of Violence. And Spider. And Naked Lunch. And Crash. And The Fly. And The Dead Zone. And Videodrome. And Scanners. I even thought Shivers had good ideas. Happy birthday, Mr. Cronenberg.

So Chris Bishop doesn’t direct movies, but he does write a compelling confrontational comic generally known as Her! A couple of days ago, Chris posted his 200th Her! comic for the lot of us to smush around in, and I am of the persuasion that nothing says “thank you” like a web hit. Go over, say hello, shake a hand, but for heaven’s sake, don’t overstay your welcome.

Back with some classic Aren’t We Real today? YES!

It’s very sad, but the Canadian cartoon television network, Teletoon, has stopped, as of last night, airing re-runs of Home Movies. The tragedy is all the more overwhelming considering that they have replaced it with Canuck-bred series Sons of Butcher, which is a debilitating sex-joke riddled grossfest. I revile the thought of no more Brendan, Melissa, Jason or Coach McGuirk. *sigh* Maybe I should invest in a DVD. Home Movies was so before its time.

It’s MONDAY.

Hope you all enjoyed the weekend a great deal.

As many of you know, I am part Irish, as it seems to be the case with 78% of all of North America’s population. Despite not making me all that special, it still allows me to look forward to St. Patrick’s Day. It is a few days away and that is good. However, did you all really think that I would wait until March 17 before celebrating? SURELY YOU JEST. We already kicked it off over the past weekend, using the Shannon Irish Show as an excuse to meet up with family and sink a few bottles down.

Shannon is a rural community about 25-30 minutes out of Quebec City which is home to a surprisingly high concentration of Irish folk. My family sprouts quite a bit from down there. Trust me, if there is someone who speaks English around those parts, there is a very high chance that I’m related to them in some form. Which is why I never dated Shannon women. Ew.

My sister became a full-fledged member of the community recently by buying a home over there. Kind of a “return to your roots” thing. She mentioned about getting the family together to see the Shannon Irish Show (and celebrating its 40th anniversary, I may add) to see some traditional folk dancing and step dancing, as well as to listen to lots of music. Well, the family did come out and we did go to the show and we did end up at my sisters to have a drink or eight. Much fun was had by all.

It’s funny because my mom and aunts always sing songs around the table and inevitably end up crying. Yes, it’s funny.

So to all of you looking forward to putting on your green and partying this weekend, all I have to say is that I have already started. IN YOUR FACE!

Today, fellow Gluemeaties, the birthday card presentation moves on, as I introduce to you all Lauren’s addition to the love in celebration of my 32 years on the planetoid.

Just before we move on with the rest of the day, as many of you probably (and rightfully) believe, I loathe the Oscars for their gaudy, self-congratulatory, royalty-on-parade aspect, and the oft-political implications of nominations and winners. Therefore, of course, I avoided the TV presentation like the plague, especially those red carpet segments. Just thinking about them makes my skin lose pigmentation.

However, every year or so, there’s one victory which allows me to forgive Oscar night for its excessiveness, and this year that honour belongs to the victorious Philip Seymour Hoffman, whose righteous performance of Truman Capote was eras above and beyond what any of his counterparts pulled off. In fact, he’s quite possibly the best actor in Hollywood today, and has been for a few years. Not many men have pulled off such a revolting and bad-taste-in-your-mouth leaving performance like he did in Happiness, only to make your chest burst with the unbridled care and devotion shown in Magnolia. There’s also his saving of 25th Hour and his spot on performance in Owning Mahowny which only add further argumentation to his cause, but seems to me his low-key attitude and apparent reluctance to playing the Hollywood game will keep him from generating the accolades he rightly deserves to draw him to the status of people like Meryl Streep, Robert De Nero and Dustin Hoffman.

Good morning fellow Gluemeaties!

Well, I didn’t think this Ma.gnolia would pay off so well so quickly, but it has! It’s without a doubt the best idea I’ve ever, ever had. Even more than that time I decided to have the surgery. You know, the surgery; for that thing.

Just to put this whole Ma.gnolia thing into perspective, the founder of the website, Mr. Larry Halff has added Gluemeat to his social bookmarking list, rated it with a whopping five stars, and wrote the following in this description:

Wow! Gluemeat is in convenient web comic format! This social bookmarking this is TEH RULEZ. Heh, who knows, with all this endorsing, maybe he’ll make me a Ma.gnolia featured linker and I’ll become this schnazzy web superstar. I mean, moreso than I already am.
