Task

Meaty.

After much deliberation, I started over the countdown to the 500th comic. Yes, much deliberation indeed. See, my original total included the three videos (the two No Time Like Scents and Paranoland) and I was wondering if I should include them in the final tally or not. I came to the conclusion that it was best to keep them out, as we were counting down to 500 Gluemeat comics. It was only fair that I preserved that level of accuracy, I believe. I don’t know what you all think, but seems to me I’M RIGHT.

So it’s another week opening before us, and I hope you all enjoy yourselves tremendously. Have a good one!

It’s comics like this that keep me coming back!

  2. by Personman:

    yes. Yes. Is good.

  3. by TN:

Sure I chuckled, but today’s gluemeat is not as great as today’s Penny Arcade. But then again, when is it ever?

  4. by Gemini6Ice:

Yes, it almost always is. I’ve never been able to read more than 5 strips of Penny Arcade in a row before getting bored. Gluemeat wins my heart over PA, but not over a Prince Albert.

    * punches TN *

    Gluemeat > PA.

But I must say, yesterday’s PA was pretty great!

  6. by TN:

I dunno, Cases’ abstract adventure of two nameless main characters tends to run a little dry, while PA’s same kind of day in day out topical humor about the gaming industry and culture is comedic Gold (They even make fun of religious figures and hollywood celebrities, GENIUS!) ! To keep Gluemeat alive Case had to resort to getting creative and cheaply started developing new characters and comic devices while still proclaiming it “gluemeat” (the whole puppet show and teen-angst-fest). Penny Arcade is even accesible to non-gamers! Why they do a full page write up choc-full-o’-links that explains why that days comic is funny, pure David-Lynchian Genius! I mean gluemeat is fine too, as long as you get “”Mr. Yorke’s” brand “of” humor, ” but it has nothing that explains why I should be laughing at it.

oh jesus. It’s a comic. Enjoy it. One more comment like that you’ll be comic-book-guy from the Simpsons.

  8. by MakTheYak:

Actually that is the thing that bothers me about Penny Arcade. You shouldn’t really need to explain your jokes to quite that extent. With that much explanation the joke almost becomes less funny. At least with Gluemeat you can have a good laugh at each strip without prerequisite reading material that you have to mug up on the night before.

I do like Penny Arcade, despite that, and yes - Yesterday’s strip was very good! Just to clarify…

Just because the Simpsons did it first means I’m not allowed to give subtle criticism and commentary on this plot of html? Maybe I should stop posting opinions and ideas on the internet because Homer already did it. Maybe Case Yorke should stop publishing strips which blatantly rip off the superior features Boxjamsdoodle and Homestarrunner . I mean come on Case, clearly Blue is Homestar and Orange is Strongbad. I mean, where else have you seen two “buddies” paired together, one somewhat of a whimsical dullard, and the one a cynic who just can’t stand the other? That’s never happened before. EVER!

Seriously though, let’s not get in an argument over this, because the Simpsons probably did that already.

On The Simpsons, I actually prefer the newer episodes to the old ones.

  11. by formerBSM:

    Penny Arcade sucks.

  12. by Bry:

If you want to talk about the roots of a rotund whimsical dullard and a thin cynic, why don’t we go back to the fifties and look at Abbot and Costello, Laurel and Hardy, and any number of other comedy duos? Comedy has it’s roots in that stuff and in all truth, it’s next to impossible to find something that doesn’t bear resemblence to another.

  13. by ZooZootheMonkey:

DUDES!! It’s a frickin comic! And besides, humor is completely subjective, having a logical discussion about humor is impossible and stupid to attempt. Like a logical discussion about morality. Sheesh… just enjoy what you like, don’t try to justify or explain it.

  14. by TN:

Well I think the whole point of these comment boards is to discuss what we like and don’t like about the comic. Also to be beligerent and pigheaded. I’m pretty sure the whole of the internet is based on the idea of being a place for people to have giant illogical discussions based on subjectivity, that eventually forgoe all civility and proper human discourse. Kind of like Pro-Wrestling or Dungeons and Dragons. I’m pretty sure it’s sign that when your website’s forum for discusion is constantly teetering on the brink of total flame-war that you have earned some degree of sucess and I just wanted the little slice of the web that I think of as my home away from home to have that. So choke on that you lovefest-wanting-hippy! :p

    I like zoos. And monkeys.

TN, will you come live in my zoo?

  16. by TN:

Only if my friend Arestro and his magical tiger can come. We would want to live in the Reptile House or wherever the noctornal animals are kept.

  17. by Gemini6Ice:

They’re kept in the Night House. Edouardo is sensitive to light, so he also lives there.

who’s up for a little Proliteriate Revolution?
