Welcome to Paranoland

As I promised on Wednesday, I offer unto thee, loyal and trustworthy Gluemeaties, a fable entitled “Welcome to Paranoland,” a story just creepy enough to make its relevance to being a Halloween special all the more exact. The story is a tale of a man named Victor who moves into a nice country home away from the city, much to the chagrin of the local villagers. I hope you take the time to download and enjoy it.

It’s a short film which I was honoured to collaborate on with an extremely talented collective of people calling themselves Phylactère Cola. The director, a friend of mine, Patrick Boivin, is extremely talented and, in my opinion, destined for great things. He did incredible work on this piece, which mixes live action with animation, in a combination which is sure to please even the most cynical of viewers. Consider this my very special treat from me to you on this Halloween weekend, and many thanks to Patrick for giving me the permission to add this as a permanent fixture to old Gluemeat Dot Com.

I’ll be curious to hear what you all think about it. Comment or drop me a line:

    Firsties!!!

.. Now i’ll go watch the movie.

Wow.. animation = way awesome. Story and Narrating = awesome but kinda corny. It really is quite fable-like, and while the liberal amount of whimsy contained in the story mostly makes up for it, it could’ve been weirded, and thus more awesome.

    But still. Awesome.

    He was not an ogre.

You all need to stop complaining. Case is truly a very talented comic/writer. I am always impressed and amused.

    Fantastic! That is all.

Who’s complaining? I loved it. I was merely submitting a small bit of constructive criticism. Please note the repeated use of the word ‘awesome’. Also, i don’t think Gemini was complaining either. He was not supposed to be an ogre, and i think gemini was just stating the obvious for humorous effect, or something, not saying he _should_ have been an ogre. If that’s what he was saying, then he’s an idiot, but i don’t think so.

Yes, Personman. I was fully intending that as a humorous on-the-wall comment.

Right before the robot comes out, Case says, “But he was not an ogre, for if he had been an ogre…”

That line really amused me. So I’m mindlessly quoting it.

  8. by Case:

Actually, the text goes “If only Victor had been an actual ogre and not a brilliant inventor…”

But hey, I’m no nitpicker. Paraphrasing is still legal. Until the RIAA finds a way to change it.

Fun stuff. Shadow puppeting is an underused form of animation, but probably because of its limits on colors.
If you want weirder , personman , you should check out David Firth’s Saladfingers, a wonderfully surreal and sick flash animation series.

Salad Fingers is one of the weirdest things I’ve ever seen (fat-pie.com -> Flash). This one, however, has a very much cooler atmosphere… The robot was a bit gimmicky, but still it was a very cool movie.

I especially loved the use of reverse shadow puppets at night time. Really cool work Case, And those animators you’ve got on staff, Give them kudos from me.

this has “twilight zone” written all over it, so awesome.

  13. by Jan:

Also, the narration is very cool… I really like the awkward way the narrator talks… (Sorry if you really talk that way, Case…)

  14. by Gemini6Ice:

Okay. You caught me. I’ve only watched it twice so far. I’ll watch it a couple more times and commit more lines to memory. ^_^
