The musical reference in last Monday’s comic was Atom And His Package and his album, A Society of People Named Elihu. Atom is a guy who does music out of his apartment in Philadelphia, playing guitar and spewing beats out of his beatbox (aka “the package”). The guy is completely insane and incredibly fun. Download songs from his website if you’re into biting, hilarious happy punk-esque nutziness. Especially Happy Birthday Ralph and (Lord, It’s Hard To Be Happy When You’re Not) Using The Metric System. I once saw Atom a few years ago in a hick Quebec town called Charny with some really sucky punk bands. Atom’s show was one of the most fun I ever saw; still is to this day. I was kind of sad to hear that he did his farewell show on August 29, which is why I wanted to do my little tribute to his best album by letting the title be the semi-punchline.
Speaking of Monday’s comic, I’m glad that everyone seemed rather satisfied with the revelation that Mega Man hadn’t actually replaced Blue, but was actually Blue in disguise. To be honest, I was really wondering how to handle the end of having the pixelized menace with us for the past two weeks; a mountainous inward debate took place between actually giving an appropriate payoff (although I prefer random and inconsequential twists) or just having Blue return without any explanation to mess with you all a little (something regular readers know I’m entirely capable of). The better half of me took over and made me realise that if I didn’t conclude the arc properly it could come across as me caving in and lacking ideas (god forbid), pulling off a stupid stunt just to piss everyone off. Which would have been fine, but it wasn’t the intention. After all, wouldn’t you say using Mega Man in webcomics, in many ways, has become naively inappropriate, just like Blue is in general?
So isn’t it nice to know that Blue was never REALLY gone? Isn’t it nice to know you can put a little faith in me? Just don’t put too much.
I am thrilled to the gills. My gills are thrilled. I have thrilling gills. Or at least, that is how they would feel, considering I’d have gills in the first place. Which I don’t. But in any extent, gills or not, my elation is hard to keep at bay, seeing that I ordered a brand-spaking new iMac from the good, kind-hearted people at Apple. I’m so excited. The first orders should be arriving in three to four weeks, so trust me, I will be maintaining a very, very close countdown. Hopefully, my wee little Quebec City won’t be on the end of a bad Apple shipment.
Enjoy today’s Always Sparkle!
