I know this is an online comic and I know most of you come over here looking for a short instant of diversion from the world’s problems, but sometimes there’s some stuff which is just beyond me, and I need a place to rant.

George W. Bush was at this big black tie dinner couple of nights ago for the Radio and Television Correspondents Association. You may have heard of this: Dubya thought it would be a funny thing to have a slideshow of pictures of him and his staff in bizarre situations and embarassing positions, and he would add live captions to the pictures being shown.

Sure, why not, even the world’s most hated man has to let off some steam sometimes. So he was going on about his little pictures, making fun of Dick Cheney (not as if it’s a stretch) and stuff, when suddenly appears a picture of himself, under White House furniture, engaged in a fruitless, frustrating search. “Those weapons of mass destruction have got to be somewhere,” he said.

That comment generated laughter from the audience. Me, made my stomach turn.

I’m amazed at how Bush was able to make such a reference. This man took his country to war under pretense that a small Arab country held weapons of mass destruction and posed an immediate threat to world peace. To this day, the said weapons remain uncovered, over 500 of his servicemen and women have died and over 3000 have been injured in this search, he continues to justify his presence there and avoids any form of interrogation about the WMD, and he turns it into a joke? This lowers everything that has been done, cheapens his rhetoric, and also shows just how detached and blissfully ignorant he is about what is going on. How can one expect him to be sympathetic to any kind of suffering, how can he maintain any semblance of credibility when faced with the reality his little vendetta has put unto the world? Do we believe he understands the consequences of his actions? Do we believe that he was working in the best interest of peace? Do we truly and sincerely believe that he was just fed bad intelligence and it wasn’t just all made up? Do we finally accept that he saw an opportunity in 9-11 to take over an Arab oil country and get his hands on the tap?

He is off-handedly admitting that he’ll never find the weapons, he’s half-saying that they’ll never be found, and he obviously thinks it’s the funniest thing in the world. Chalk up “heartless monster” to his resume, right next to “lying hypocrite” and “blithering moron.”
