Radioactive (Part 1)

Fiddling through my server logs, I noticed a lot of folks coming to visit Gluemeat.com have browser entries which include the text “FunWebProducts.” Well, since I’m the kind of guy who always loves a fun product (may it be web or otherwise) I decided to look into it, just to make sure I wasn’t missing out on the next big trend or something. Turns out that FunWebProducts isn’t fun at all, and is more insidious than the name implies.

It’s actually adware, which really isn’t as terrible as something like spyware, thought it still can clutter up your system good and is equally as deceptive. If you installed either Smiley Central, PopSwatter, My Mail Signature, My Mail Stationery, My Mail Stamp or Cursor Mania (which are being advertised throughout the w-w-w), then your system is probably suffering because of it. Here’s an article about the subject: http://www.nwfusion.com/newsletters/web/2003/1208web2.html
