What? You thought I’d let this event go buy without going political for a second?
Don’t get me wrong. I don’t approve of dictatorship and putting Saddam Hussein out of power is indeed a boon for the people of Iraq. However, I am also on the side of auto-determination. A country’s destiny lies within itself, not through the intervention of others, especially when policed through intervention that was not only unsolicited, but unwarranted. I won’t re-iterate all the rhetoric about weapons of mass destruction, unsubstantiated accusations of terrorist support, or the constant presence of troops in the country despite public disapproval, but blazing Saddam’s image for hours on end, news broadcast after news broadcast, is simply turning into a mass-marketing scheme to sell us the idea that the war in Iraq was worth something. As smart human beings, we should all realise that Saddam’s capture will not bring rest to Iraq or reduce the threat of terrorism. Some people are hoping that we’re going to buy the opposite by showing his bearded, broken face over and over and over again. Just like when Britney has a record to sell. Show it over and over and over again, and people will buy anything.
Anyhoo, on a completely other note, there’s this really unbelievable thing I’ve been put onto that I need your help in figuring out.
You’ve all heard of Megatokyo, right? And you all know just how incredibly popular it is, right? Would you all do me a favour? Could you all head over there to check out this specific comic, take a good look at it and tell me if I’m seeing what I think I’m seeing. Like on the discussion forum. Please, someone, help.
