Three Legally Deaf British Gentlemen

Happy Thanksgiving to all my American Gluemeaties, I hope you all take full advantage of the holiday. Just remember, if there is one thing you should all be thankful for this year is that I still haven’t got athritis. HAR!
The season finale of Carnivàle is already right around the corner. Next week, the show which I consider to be the best thing on television right now is already going to shut down for that extended annual break. BOO! HISS! At least I think it fared well enough for HBO to give it another run next year, which is muy bueno, without a doubt. Of course, I can’t wait for the finale next week, but I’m also a wee bit bitter that it’s already over. Life does that, I guess.
So, has anyone else been watching the show or is it just me?
I must say that I’m really digging the Comments featurette I set up with the new design. I’m glad to see people are taking advantage of it! Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside to read them. Speaking of which, a few people mentioned how sad it was that Blue Guy needs love so bad. Well, now thanks to Justin Pierce, old Blue ended up in bed with Tina of Killroy And Tina fame. You don’t believe me? See it for yourself, you Doubting Thomases, you.
And don’t forget: Thursdays mean another re-issue of my old Aren’t We Real junk! I mean, it’s still better than watching Eric Roberts “act.”

Baking Soda

Hello fellow Gluemeaties! Hope you all had a good weekend and thank you for checking back in again today. I always appreciate your patronage.
I’ve made a complete and utter fanboy out of myself on Sunday watching a Doctor Who marathon on BBC Kids. Since 10 am I’ve been enjoying 40 episodes of Doctor Who’s Tom Baker era, realising just how simple it can be to make good TV, and how much we settle for so little nowadays. Sure, the effects are primitive, the costumes simple and obvious, and production is a little on the cheap side, but in terms of content and acting it is nigh-impossible to find its equivalent on TV today.
I’ve realised that many of my favourite comics are either sporadically updating or aren’t updating at all, which terribly stinks. Although, I am happy that Men In Hats is keeping up rather well, among others, I’ve got to the point where I am ready to add new comics to my reading list. I’m more than open to all your suggestions, fellow Gluemeaties, so please point me into the direction of fun! Tell me about any comics I may not know about that you think I may like!

Birthday (Part 3)
Friday, November 21st, 2003
It’s the final day of the first week of the Gluemeat anniversary. Indeed, we part these happy days with deep sorrow, yet we must remember the laughs.
Ah, indeed, the laughs: synoymous with good times, antagonistic to cruelty, wholly unlike fish. Thank you all for celebrating this week. More celebrating will come… next year.
A few days after Halloween, I got something in the mail. And that thing in the mail was my highly anticipated Chopping Block’s Butch plush doll. I was really excited, because Chopping Block has always been one of my favourite comics and Lee Herold is probably my best comic buddy. I was happy I could show my support by purchasing this great piece of merchandise. I mean, is there anything really cooler than to have to own personal mini serial killer, all soft and cushy, keeping a cold, calculating yet cuddly eye on everything happening around you? It makes everyone green with envy. Or is it white with fear? Same difference, right? Nevertheless, I’ve been since spending most of my free time having Butch beating the hell out of the other toys of my collection.

Here’s Butch beating up Doctor Doom.

Here he is about to strike down Scarecrow.

And here he is with his new homey, Fat Cap.
So as you cal all tell, Butch is faring very well.
I have been the lucky recipient of more anniversary art! Esh of Esh By Esh has turned Blue and Orange into geeks! I actually like Orange with glasses. And hearing Blue talk Geekspeak is just perfect. Thanks Esh!
And just before I bug out, Eric Toffey over at Sauce has this hilarious story going involving a zombie Paris Hilton. It’s terribly funny and well worth your time.
DAN BEESTON FUN FACT: Dan can enjoy 6 to 8 cups of tea per day.

Birthday (Part 2)
Wednesday, November 19th, 2003
Fellow Gluemeaties, it is exactly on this date, November 19, in the year 2001, that the very first Gluemeat appeared into the world. I think the extremities of my body parts are going to be tingly all day long. Thanks to everyone who have sent their comments and well-wishes. Here’s to another year, folks! Oh, wait, I already said that in my previous news entry. But that’s okay, because every time I say it, I pour myself another glass of amaretto. So here’s to another year! Whoo-hoo! Party at my house!
Speaking of which, one week ago today, Dan “The Beast” Beeston, was stepping back onto a bus and heading away from my humble abode, having spent a few nights and days here in Quebec. In case you’re wondering, Dan’s the guy who used to do Lilley Street and now runs Dad’s Joke. It was truly a pleasure to have him around, as you can obviously tell from the picture. We spent a lot of time discussing our love of webcomics, our love of improvisational theatre, and our love of international cultural icons. Listening to Dan talk reminded me of all the Australian cultural figures we North Americans have been exposed to over the years, like Paul Hogan, INXS, Steve Irwin, Midnight Oil, Yahoo Serious, the Energizer Battery Guy, and John Farnham, just to name a few. I couldn’t believe he did not know who John Farnham was! Do you people know who John Farnham was? I mean, without checking on Google first? Drop by the discussion forum so we can talk about it. He also taught me that most Australians like to call things made in New Zealand as their own. Like they like to think that the Lord Of The Rings movies were produced in Australia. Those poor, delusional bastards.
But seriously, Dan was an extremely nice guy to have around and I wish I get the chance to meet him again. In the meantime, so as to help get across the reality of how interesting he is, I will be posting ever so often items from my “Dan Beeston Fact Sheet” here in the News section so that you too may get to know Dan and understand the grandeur of the “Beast From Brisbane”.
Now, allow me reassure you all that we are just as worried about Safetypin’s anger outbursts as I’m sure most of you are. Therefore, in an attempt to help qualm the queasiness of our readership, we have decided to send Safetypin to get some therapy to help him curb his aggressive behaviour. See a status update courtesy of this piece of guest art from our good pals over at UR Cult (thanks guys!).
Don’t forget, classic Aren’t We Real every Tuesday and Thursday, dusted off and brought back to you chock full of, um, well, um, scribbles! And profanity! Lots and lots of profanity! That’s what being underground is all about! Profanity!

Birthday (Part 1)
Monday, November 17th, 2003
Well folks, here we are. This is the week of Gluemeat’s birthday. We are about to embark upon year 3 with much thrill, pleasure, and anticipation! I can’t say how excited I am to be able to celebrate yet another anniversary this year. It’s an amazing thing to still be around doing this comic, but even more amazing that there are more and more of you who seem to enjoy what I do, which simply gives me the power to move on, and give it my best.
That’s what this past year has essentially taught me. Gluemeat has readers; very loyal and fun readers who really care about what I do. Like I’ve always said, I started doing Gluemeat because it was a fun idea I had and I will continue doing it as long as it is fun to do. But I have since factored in the audience aspect trying to come up with stuff that would be up to expectations. That those who did bother to come and visit the comic and care about it would feel that I show them the same appreciation by giving them the best Gluemeat-like comics possible. Which is something I both take as a challenge and as another level of fun. The pleasure I’ve been taking in reading all your comments and interacting with you has made it all worth the while. Thanks to all my fellow Gluemeaties for making the past year so much fun. Here’s to another year!
I hope you all enjoy the new design. I am HOPING that it will generate less hullabaloo as last year’s re-design and there will be more of a consensus. Besides, I’m planning on eliminating all those who have bad things to say about this design, because I think it’s uber-cool. Now don’t forget, we have the new discussion forums up to chit-chat about, oh say, how cool the new design is. And you don’t have to be registered to participate! You can also now drop comments about individual comics as well by hitting the “Comment on this comic” link at the bottom of the comic. I’m hoping that most of you will take advantage of it, because I’ll be open to all you have to say. No matter how serious or silly it would be. And you don’t have to be registered there either! Hooray!
Now don’t forget that starting Tuesday my old Aren’t We Real will be shown once again right here on Gluemeat. Now I warn you all: it is nothing close to being like Gluemeat, and is intended for people who are not afraid of controversy. Oh, and adults too. So don’t be too shocked. In any event, I will be annotating each AWR comic with some comments, mostly to defuse what I’ve written in the past so that you don’t all turn on me.
I hope you enjoy the birthday comic this week, and I will chat more on Tuesday, like, for instance, of Dan Beeston’s visit to my part of the rock!
